Data processing for advertising purposes by Google

On the one hand, Google processes personal data as a processor on our behalf when we use Google tools for our own purposes, e.g. to analyze the use of our website or control our advertising campaigns. In addition, Google also collects and uses personal data within the Google advertising network (formerly DoubleClick) as a controller or on behalf of third parties, whereby this data can be merged into user or interest profiles. We would like to point out that Google can link the visit to this website with the data of users who have registered with Google and logged into an account. This data is used by Google to provide other advertisers with targeted advertising for users who match their profiles.

As an operator of central platform services, Google is a gatekeeper within the meaning of the Digital Markets Act. If you give your consent to the use of corresponding Google marketing products and functions, this also relates to the transmission to and use by Google within the Google advertising network.

You have the option of setting up personalized advertising in the Google advertising network under the following link: https://adssettings.google.com/.

WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT & HOW DO WE USE IT?

If you have given your consent, Google Analytics 4, a web analysis service of Google, is used on this website. The controller for users in the EU/EEA is Google Ireland Limited, Google Building Gordon House, 4 Barrow St, Dublin, Ireland ("Google").

Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies that enable us to analyze the use of our websites. The information collected by the cookies about your use of this website is generally transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there.

We use the User ID function. With the help of the User ID, we can assign a unique, persistent ID to one or more sessions (and the activities within these sessions) and analyze user behavior across devices.

We use Google Signals. This allows Google Analytics to collect additional information about users who have activated personalized ads (interests and demographic data) and ads can be delivered to these users in cross-device and cross website remarketing campaigns.

We use GA Audience to create target groups for Google Analytics reports. This helps us to compare different user groups as part of the analysis. If you consent to the use of Google marketing services, this target group data can also be used for personalized advertising. GA Audience uses a web beacon and cookies for this purpose.

In Google Analytics 4, the anonymization of IP addresses is activated by default. Due to IP anonymization, your IP address will be shortened by Google within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area, if you are located in those areas. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transmitted to a Google server in the USA and truncated there. According to Google, the IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics will not be merged with other Google data. During your visit to the website, your user behavior is recorded in the form of "events". Events and data collected can be:

  • Page views

  • First visit to the website

  • Start of the session

  • Websites visited

  • Your "click path", interaction with the website

  • Scrolls (whenever a user scrolls to the bottom of the page (90%))

  • Clicks on external links

  • Internal search queries

  • Interaction with videos

  • File downloads

  • Viewed / clicked ads

  • Language setting

  • Your approximate location (region)

  • Date and time of the visit

  • Your IP address (in abbreviated form)

  • Technical information about your browser and the end devices you use (e.g. language setting, screen resolution)

  • Your internet provider

  • The referrer URL (via which website/advertising medium you came to this website)

The data sent by us and linked to cookies is automatically deleted after 14 months. The maximum lifespan of Google Analytics cookies is 2 years. Data whose retention period has been reached is automatically deleted once a month. For more information on the storage period of the individual Google cookies, please refer to the tabular overview in our cookie policy.

The current terms of use and explanations on data protection at Google Analytics can be found in Google's privacy policy and the Google Analytics terms of use.

Legal basis for data processing

In order to analyze this website with Google Analytics, we need your consent, which is why we ask you to agree to the use of cookies for analysis purposes within the framework described in our cookie policy. You can withdraw your consent at any time by adjusting the “Cookie Preferences”.

Google Maps

The Websites use the map service Google Maps via an API. Please also note our general information on the use of Google services.

To use the functions of Google Maps it is necessary to store your IP address. This information is usually transferred to a Google server in the United States and stored there. Abiomed has no influence on this data transfer.

Google Maps is used to make it easy to find the places we have indicated on the Websites. If you use the map service Google Maps by clicking on it, Google will collect and store your data. Before using the map service, please understand the type and scope of data collection done by Google Maps and the further processing and use of data by Google, as well as your rights and options for the protection of your privacy. This information can be found by reviewing Google's Privacy Policy.

The map service is started by active action on the part of the Website visitor and is regarded by Abiomed as consent to the transfer of data to Google.

Google reCAPTCHA

Google reCAPTCHA is a service from Google that allows website operators to check whether a user on their site is a human or a bot. Our Websites use Google reCAPTCHA. Please note our general information on the use of Google services.

The reCAPTCHA deployment is intended to ensure that no bots automatically interact on the website, thus protecting the individual web pages from spam software and abuse by non-human visitors. reCAPTCHA collects personal data from website visitors to determine whether the actions on the visited website are from humans. The IP address and other data required by Google for the reCAPTCHA service are sent to Google. In addition to the login data, this can also include, for example, mouse and keyboard behavior and JavaScript objects. According to Google, the IP address is not combined with other data from Google unless the visitor is logged in with his Google account while using reCAPTCHA.

With the integration of the Google reCAPTCHA our Websites, your data is collected and stored by Google. Since we cannot prevent Google from beginning to collect and process data before you answer the reCAPTCHA request, we also ask for your consent to our use of the Google reCAPTCHA service in the context of our request for your consent to cookie use. The reCAPTCHA script will only be loaded if you give your consent. For security reasons we can only offer our service, in which the reCAPTCHA function is integrated, if you answer the reCAPTCHA request. If you do not wish to do so, you may contact us by using Abiomed’s Privacy Webform.

Please visit Google’s Privacy Policy and view its Terms of Service for more information about Google reCAPTCHA.

In order to be able to secure this website using Google reCAPTCHA, we need your consent, which is why we ask you to give your consent to the use of cookies for functional purposes in the context as described in our Cookie Notice. You can withdraw your consent at any time via the “Cookie preferences”.

Google Tag Manager

We use the "Google Tag Manager" service on our website. Google Tag Manager enables us to manage website tags via a user-friendly interface. The Google Tag Manager tool itself is a domain without cookies and does not collect any personal data. It is only used to trigger other tags that may collect data. Google Tag Manager does not access this data but operates as an interface. If these tags concern personal data or set cookies, we will ask for separate consent if this is necessary.

For more detailed information about data processing in Google Tag Manager, please refer to Google's FAQ, which can be found at the following link: https://www.google.com/intl/de/tagmanager/faq.html.

Google Marketing Platform

As part of our marketing, recruiting and employer branding campaigns and to deliver advertising in the Display Network, we use services from the Google Marketing Platform (Google Display & Video, Google Campaign 360, Google Search Ads 360) that use cookies and related technologies. These services set a cookie with a randomly generated user ID that allows users to be recognized across different websites within the Display Network, Google Search and other Google services (such as Gmail, YouTube) across domains. This corresponds to so-called 3rd party tracking. The usage behavior on our pages and interactions with advertising (see Google Analytics 4) are assigned to this user ID. There is a technical connection between Google DV360, Google Campaign, Google Ads and Google Analytics (including Google Audiences), which allows data already collected to be exchanged between the tools.

In addition to the activities on our website, information about user behavior in the Google advertising network and Google search is also collected by Google and made available to us. The following types of personal data may be used:

  • Online identifiers (including cookie IDs)

  • IP addresses and device identifiers

  • Location data

  • Identifiers assigned by us

We use Google marketing services for the following purposes:

Google Ads 360 is a service for remarketing or retargeting. It analyzes the interaction of users on our website, in particular which offers they were interested in, in order to show them targeted advertising on other pages even after they have visited our website. For this purpose, Google stores and reads marketing cookies in the browsers of users who visit certain Google services or websites in the Google Display Network in order to record the visits of these users.

The Google Campaign Manager tool is used to display ads that are relevant to users, to improve the performance of campaigns or to prevent a user from seeing the same ads more than once.

Google Display & Video 360 (DV360) is used to process data about behavior on our websites for marketing purposes and to deliver personalized advertising messages. In addition, we use the data collected on our website and data from third-party providers and Google to gain insights into advertising target groups and can create combined target groups from different data sets. DV360 also allows us to understand where and how our ads have been served. We use this data to identify user groups with similar behavior, create marketing lists and serve user-based advertising.

Google acts as a processor when we manage our campaigns via these services. In addition, Google also collects and uses personal data within the advertising network as a controller, whereby this data can be merged into user or interest profiles. We would like to point out that Google can link the visit to this website with the registered data for users who have registered with Google and logged into an account.

You have the option of adjusting the personalized advertising in the Google advertising network under the following link: https://adssettings.google.com/

Further information on the processing of personal data and the use of cookies in connection with Google marketing products can be found at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

WHAT IS THE LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING?

If consent is required due to the user location, we only use Google services if you give us your consent for marketing purposes using Google services within the framework described in our cookie policy. You can withdraw or adjust your consent at any time via the “Cookie preferences”. In all other cases we use these services for legitimate interests such as security, non-personal analytics or technical functions and services requested by the user.
