From Sauna to Hospital – and Back to Life

A day like any other in Grömitz: Karsten Sachau, a retired teacher, enjoys his retirement swimming, going to the sauna and traveling. But on his way to the sauna, he suddenly collapsed. Cardiac arrest. Defibrillated 27 times. He remained in a coma for five days.

A race against time began. With cutting-edge technology and effort, including cardiac support with the Impella™ pump, the unimaginable became reality: new hope. After 14 days, Karsten was discharged from the hospital: alive, awake and grateful.

Today, Karsten Sachau shares his moving story that reminds us how precious life truly is.
