Retired Mathematical Statistician Recovers After Heart Attack

John Bushery, 74, from Rio Rancho, NM, is a retired Census Bureau mathematical statistician who lives a very active lifestyle. On June 14, 2021, John experienced shoulder pain that radiated down his arm. His wife, Laura, called 911 and he was transported to the Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace in Albuquerque, NM.

John was immediately introduced to interventional cardiologist Mark Bieniarz, MD, who confirmed John was having a heart attack. He was quickly rushed to the catheterization lab where Dr. Bieniarz implanted Impella CP® with SmartAssist® before opening the blockages. After 12 hours, Impella was removed.

John returned home after spending nearly a week in the hospital. Today, John is back to his exercise routine and enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and granddaughter.
