Father Enjoying Life with His Family Following Protected PCI Procedure

Denny Putra, 45, is a father of two and PhD candidate living in West Lafayette, IN. In 2019, Denny began experiencing shortness of breath. Over time, his symptoms became more severe, which prohibited Denny from climbing stairs and playing with his children. In 2022, while vacationing with his family in his native country of Indonesia, he saw his cardiologist, who diagnosed him with complex multivessel disease. He was evaluated for coronary artery bypass surgery but decided to seek a second opinion due to the long recovery period. When Denny returned to the United States, he was referred to Dr. Mark Goodwin of Midwest Cardiovascular Institute and evaluated at Edward-Elmhurst Health Hospital in Naperville, IL. Dr. Goodwin told him he was a candidate for a Protected PCI® procedure with Impella®, and on October 4, Drs. Goodwin and Tony DeMartini implanted Impella CP® with SmartAssist® and performed a complete revascularization while placing multiple stents. Denny spent one night in the hospital and returned home to his family the following day.

Today, he has a normal ejection fraction (60 percent) and can push a stroller and play with his children without experiencing shortness of breath or fatigue.
