Avid Runner Crosses Racing Milestone Following Protected PCI Procedure

In Singapore, Prem Prakash Pathak started noticing tightness in his chest during his morning training runs. With his wife’s encouragement, the father of two young children visited Dr. Leslie Tay, an interventional cardiologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. Dr. Tay discovered three of the arteries to Prem's heart were blocked, and he was in severe heart failure. In the hopes of getting Prem on the road to recovery, Dr. Tay suggested a Protected PCI with Impella®.

Dr. Tay inserted the Impella CP® with SmartAssist®, which supported Prem's heart while Dr. Tay cleared the blocked arteries. The device was removed shortly after the procedure, and several weeks later, Prem was starting some light exercise. One-year later, with Dr. Tay’s support, Prem accomplished his original goal of completing a half-marathon in Singapore.

Today, Prem continues with his routine training, while enjoying each moment with his family.
