Mother of Two Survives Heart Attack
Jennifer Guess is a mother of two from Lakeville, IN. In August 2020, at the age of 48, Jennifer began experiencing symptoms of blurred vision, headaches, and chest pain. She initially thought she had a virus, but when her symptoms became more severe, her husband called 911 and she was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital of South Bend in South Bend, IN.
While in the ambulance, Jennifer went into cardiac arrest. EMTs administered CPR before arriving at the emergency room. Physicians determined she was in cardiogenic shock and Dr. Mayank Mittal implanted the Impella CP® heart pump to allow her heart to rest before placing stents in her left anterior descending artery, which was 100% blocked. After two days of support, Impella® was weaned and removed. Within three months, Jennifer’s heart function returned to normal.
Today, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family and she is passionate about raising awareness about heart disease.
