Contractor enjoying Retirement Following his Protected PCI Procedure
Albert Bell is a father, grandfather, and general contractor from Francestown, NH. In December 2023, at the age of 76, he experienced shortness of breath and fatigue while walking and gardening. He made an appointment with his primary care physician who performed an echocardiogram that revealed multiple blockages in his coronary arteries. He was referred to Dr. Stephan Heo at Catholic Medical Center for more extensive testing. An angiogram confirmed he had severe coronary artery disease and a reduced ejection fraction of 25 percent. After consulting with the heart team, it was determined Al was not a candidate for coronary artery bypass surgery and a Protected PCI with Impella was the best option. In January 2023, Dr. Heo inserted the Impella CP® heart pump to allow his heart to rest while he placed stents. After a successful procedure, Al went home the following day.
After one additional procedure, Al has more energy than he’s had in years. He is working full-time, and he enjoys skiing, boating and spending summers at Lake Winnipesauke with his children and grandchildren.
As with any medical treatment, individual results may vary. There are potential risks, these risks need to be discussed with your doctor and recovery takes time. The success of this procedure depends on many factors, including your physical condition and your body’s ability to tolerate the procedure. Use care in the selection of your doctors and hospital, based on their skill and experience.
