from GE Healthcare Join to Focus on Commercial Growth and Process
Improvement
DANVERS, Mass, June 16, 2004 -- ABIOMED, Inc.,
(NASDAQ:ABMD) today announced that the Company has added three individuals
to its management team.
Javier Jimenez is joining ABIOMED as Vice President of Operations.
He is overseeing purchasing and materials, information technology,
financial planning and budgeting. Raymond Kelley is Vice President
of Corporate Marketing, responsible for the development of marketing
programs to drive awareness, sales and product development. Christopher
Macdonald, Senior Vice President of Global Sales, Applications and
Service, is responsible for the oversight of all distribution-related
functions to accelerate the integration of ABIOMED's global commercial
business. All three come from positions of leadership within GE
Healthcare and are certified as experts in Six Sigma management
processes. Collectively, they have broad experience in finance,
operations, marketing, sales, clinical applications and customer
service.

In addition to these changes, other positions within management
have been refocused. Vice President Tony Bailey has assumed the
role of Vice President of Manufacturing and is responsible for improving
efficiency and accelerating production as the company prepares for
increased product sales in FY '05. Gene Rabe, Vice President of
US Sales, will continue to lead the US Sales team, which ABIOMED
intends to expand this year.
Javier Jimenez
Javier Jimenez has extensive experience in controllership, commercial
finance, and overall business operations. He was most recently Director
of Commercial Operations for GE Healthcare Information Technologies
Americas overseeing the sales operations of over $1B in revenues.
This latest position was one of several at GE Healthcare with increasing
leadership roles in finance and operations, including positions
in risk management, finance management and financial planning and
analysis. Javier first joined General Electric as a member of the
Corporate Audit Staff, where he spent over two years performing
financial audits and process reviews at several business units in
the USA and Europe. During his tenure at GE he achieved Six Sigma
Black Belt certification. At ABIOMED, he is responsible for operations,
planning and budgeting, and information systems.
Mr. Jimenez started his professional career in technical sales
in Spain. He holds BS and MS degrees in Aeronautical Engineering
from Universidad Politécnica in Madrid, Spain, and earned
his MBA from Boston University.
Raymond Kelley
Raymond Kelley is joining ABIOMED following a career at GE Healthcare
where he held numerous roles in sales, marketing and product development,
including the Americas Marketing Manager position for the $650M
Hi-Field Magnetic Resonance (MR) business. Under this program, he
successfully formulated pricing strategy, maximized margins and
increased sales volume through effective training, marketing and
product launches. Mr. Kelley also made important contributions as
lead engineer in the development of intra-operative Neuro-surgical
MR procedures and technologies, working closely with surgeons in
the operating rooms of the world's leading medical centers.
Most recently, Ray held the MR Sales Specialist position for the
New Jersey and Baltimore region. He significantly grew orders and
sales within these regions and increased market share through effective
regional marketing and installed base programs. Prior to the marketing
position, Mr. Kelley drove intranet and internet awareness programs
as a Global eBusiness leader. During his tenure at GE Healthcare,
he earned Six Sigma Black Belt certification. Prior to joining GE,
he worked as a research engineer at Brigham and Women's Hospital
in Boston.
Mr. Kelley earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
from Northeastern University, and has been awarded numerous professional
honors.
Christopher Macdonald
Mr. Macdonald joins ABIOMED following a career at GE Healthcare.
Most recently he was the central U. S. Cardiology Zone Manager where
he set consistent number one performance records for orders and
sales revenue in excess of $100M. Prior to holding that position,
Mr. Macdonald was the Corporate Accounts Director for Americas Cardiology
and led the commercial Six Sigma quality team for the Information
Technologies Business Unit. He also served as the Operations Manager
for GE Cardiology with annual revenues in excess of $200M. Chris
is certified as a Master Black Belt in Statistics of Six Sigma.
His GE leadership appointments followed a very successful 6-year
track record in both cardiology and information technology sales
with Marquette Medical Systems.
Mr. Macdonald graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology
from Tulane University.
