On Site Training:
Education of a multidisciplinary group of hospital personnel and physicians is given to ensure the safe and effective use of ABIOMED Circulatory Support Systems(CSS).

Physician Training
Education includes areas that will assist in the process of establishing comfort and confidence with CSS usage. Review of indications, implanting techniques, patient management, weaning and explant are addressed.

Physician Implant Training
Education on the design, operation and clinical use of ABIOMED's CSS devices is performed in this program. This training program includes a didactic and hands on laboratory session.

OR Training
Education is provided in a 1 hour time period that includes sterile set up, start up procedures, priming, and implanting and explanting procedures related to CSS.

CVICU Nursing
This program consists of theoretical and clinical applications for ventricular support. In addition, the program includes instruction on CSS operation, system set up, implant and explant techniques, weaning, and postoperative management. Opportunity for "hands on" practice and troubleshooting is also provided. The goal of this educational offering is to prepare a core group of experienced critical care nurses to be able to manage a mechanical circulatory supported patient in the postoperative setting.

On Site Support for First Time Users
A commitment to provide on site clinical support with 24 hours of notification from client institution that a patient has been placed on support. The purpose of onsite clinical support during first time device use is to assist the client institution in the transition of caring for the newly implanted patient. Emphasis is placed on bedside training with regard to patient management, outcome, and client perception of a positive first experience with mechanical circulatory support. Typical first time support last 24-48 hours.

24-Hour Phone Support
Involves clinical support 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, providing phone support in managing patients on mechanical support. Emphasis is placed on providing support to assist the client in the transition of caring for the newly implanted patient, with a focus on patient management and outcomes.

Clinical Demonstrations
Onsite product demonstrations, providing a brief review of ABIOMED Circulatory Support Systems and related accessory items. Patient indications and review of system operations is also be included.

CVICU Nursing Refresher Class
Interactive sessions with nurses experienced in CSS, reviewing key concepts with regard to system operation, patient management, troubleshooting, and weaning. Clinical Case Studies are often used to address key concepts.

Service Training Seminars
It is strongly recommended that servicing on ABIOMED products be done only by factory trained and certified technicians. Seminars are intended to be for hospital Biomedical/Clinical Technicians and Biomedical/Clinical Engineers that are interested in maintaining the ABIOMED systems in house. The seminar focuses on system level operation, performing preventive maintenance, calibration, repairs and identifying operator related issues.
