Mr. Michael R. Minogue is Abiomed’s Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President. He joined Abiomed in April 2004 following a successful twelve-year career at GE Healthcare. Mr. Minogue departed GE as the Vice President and General Manager of Americas Sales and Marketing for the $1B Information Technology business. From 1997 to 2004, Mr. Minogue held various global leadership positions in sales, marketing, customer service, engineering management, and software development for GE. Mr. Minogue led the Positron Emission Technology division, Americas Cardiology Sales and Marketing, Global Installed Base business, and MRI Americas marketing. Prior to joining GE, Mr. Minogue served on active duty for four years as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army and received multiple awards. Mr. Minogue received his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering management from the United States Military Academy at West Point and his MBA from the University of Chicago. Mr. Minogue currently serves on the board of directors of LifeCell Corporation (LIFC) and for AdvaMed, the Advanced Medical Technology Association. Since joining Abiomed, Mr. Minogue has focused the company on heart recovery in order to treat a broader patient population with new products developed in-house and by acquisition, such as Impella.
Dr. Karim Benali
joined ABIOMED in July 2004 as Vice President of Product
Development. In January 2006 he became ABIOMED's Chief
Medical Officer, leading the Company's upstream product
development efforts and strategic clinical research
functions. Dr. Benali has more than twelve years of
international experience in medicine and research,
with a strong focus on cardiology. He held several
strategic positions in academic and corporate fields
with leading institutions in Europe and has a strong
background in the design and supervision of multi-center
clinical trials. While at GE HealthCare, he brought
to market two of the company's top products in cardiology.
As Global Manager of Cardiology-Functional Imaging
at GE Healthcare, he led the introduction of breakthrough
applications in cardiology, pioneered the first cardiac
procedures on the newly introduced hybrid imaging
platform and positioned GE as market leader in Cardiac
PET/CT. He previously held the position of Global
Clinical Research Leader for the Cardiovascular Business
at GE Healthcare. Dr. Benali earned a BS degree from
the University of Algiers in Engineering Technology,
an MD degree from Institut National de l'Enseignement
Superieur des Sciences Medicales in Algiers, an MS
in Bio-imaging and Bio-engineering from the University
of Val de Marne —Paris XII, and a Pierre &
Marie Curie University Degree in Biostatistics and
Clinical Research —Paris VI.
Mr. William J. Bolt
has served ABIOMED since 1982 and has been Senior
Vice President for Global Quality and Service
since January 2003. He is currently responsible for
all Quality and Design Assurance activities in the
Company. He was responsible for all product development
and the AbioCor program from 2000-2002, and for BVS
and AB5000 development from 1999-2002. From 1994 to
1998, he was President of ABIOMED's dental subsidiary,
ABIODENT. From 1982 to 1994, he served in various
roles, from Vice President of Engineering to Vice
President of Operations, where he was the engineer
in-charge of the development of the BVS and other
systems. Mr. Bolt received his Bachelor's degree in
Electrical Engineering and an MBA from Northeastern
University.
Ms. Patricia A. Fitch joined ABIOMED in January 2008 as Vice President of Sales, bringing to ABIOMED her expertise in in field sales leadership, sales operations and sales management. Ms. Fitch joined ABIOMED from J&J Cordis Cardiology, where she has been the Director of Sales Operations and Development as well as holding several regional and divisional sales management roles for the past 10 years. Her earlier experience includes sales responsibilities with Schneider and Baxter Edwards Critical Care. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Purdue University and an MBA from the Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota.
Mr. Andrew J. Greenfield
joined ABIOMED in January 2005 as Vice President of
Healthcare Solutions, bringing to ABIOMED his expertise
in six sigma and healthcare consulting. Mr. Greenfield
held multiple positions at GE Healthcare from 1999-2005,
including consulting with large U.S. health systems
in the Enterprise Client Group, Six Sigma Master Black
Belt, and Finance Manager. Prior to GE Healthcare,
he held multiple positions in marketing and sales
management at the Boeing Company including Program
Manager and European Country Manager. He received
his bachelor degree in finance from the University
of Illinois, an MBA from St. Louis University, and
is a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt and change
management facilitator.
Mr. Robert T.V. Kung
has served ABIOMED since 1982 and has been Senior
Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer since
1995. He was Vice President of Research and Development
from 1987 to 1995 and Chief Scientist from 1982 to
1987. Prior to joining ABIOMED, Dr. Kung was a Principal
Research Scientist at Schafer Associates from 1978
to 1982 and at the Avco Everett Research Laboratory
from 1972 to 1978. He developed non-linear optical
techniques for laser applications and investigated
physical and chemical phenomena in re-entry physics.
Dr. Kung has been Principal Investigator for ABIOMED's
National Institutes of Health-funded AbioCor and AbioBooster
programs and has conceived of and directed the development
of ABIOMED's laser-based minimally invasive technologies.
Dr. Kung received a Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry
from Cornell University.
Dr. Thorsten Siess joined ABIOMED in 2005 upon its acquisition of Impella
CardioSystems, AG, which he co-founded in 1998 and
has served as Manager of R&D, then Chief Technology
Officer. His work in the development and marketing
of the Impella 2.5 and 5.0 in Europe led to their
CE Mark approval. During his time at the University
of Aachen he developed the Impella technology which
served as a platform for the entire Impella product
portfolio. The products, which allow early intervention
through a pencil-sized VAD, are now available in 70
centers in 11 countries. Prior to founding
Impella, Dr. Siess served as Scientist in the Biomedical
Technology Team at Helmholtz-Institute of Biomedicine
at the University of Aachen in Germany. Dr. Siess
received a Ph.D. degree as well as his MASc in Mechanical
Engineering from the University of Aachen.
Mr. Daniel J. Sutherby
joined us in January 2006 as our Chief Financial Officer. From August 1998 to December 2005, Mr. Sutherby was employed by PerkinElmer, Inc. in a number of management positions, serving as Corporate Director of Global Accounting & Finance from August 1998 to September 2000, Acting Corporate Controller from September 2000 to June 2001, Director of Global Finance for PerkinElmer’s Life and Analytical Sciences Unit from June 2001 to January 2003, and Corporate Vice President, Investor Relations, Corporate Communications and Risk Management from January 2003 to December 2005. Mr. Sutherby is a Certified Public Accountant, and has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s of science in finance from Bentley College.
Dr. David Weber joined Abiomed in 2007 as the Company's Chief Operating Officer. Dr. Weber brings more than 15 years of management experience, including 13 years with GE Healthcare, where he most recently held the position of General Manager of GE Security’s Aviation and Transportation Business. He previously held the position of General Manager of Magnetic Resonance (MR) Marketing, a greater than $1 billion business within GE Medical Systems. He has also held several positions in marketing, clinical application development and product development. Prior to joining GE, Dr. Weber completed a post-doctoral assignment at the University of Wisconsin in Madison where he received his Master of Science Degree and Ph.D. in Medical Physics. He has Bachelor of Science Degrees in Physics from Denison University and in Nuclear Engineering from Columbia University School of Engineering.
